Shirley’s life began August 12, 1921 in Columbus, Nebraska. Her family moved to Wyoming when she was young. While living there she met Albert Finehout who was a mechanic with the Army Airforce. After his enlistment was done he brought his wife back to Southwest Michigan with him. They raised a loving family which included four children. Shirley earned her associates degree in nursing and worked as an LPN at Watervliet Community Hospital for many years. The only thing Shirley loved more than nursing was her family. She loved filling her time supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events and just spending time with her family. Shirley also enjoyed watching sports on TV, she even played semi-professional softball for a while. Shirley’s church was very important to her, she attended Watervliet Free Methodist Church until she couldn’t drive and then attended Sister Lakes Community Church with her family.
Shirley leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory which includes; two children Richard L. Finehout of Watervliet and Betty (James) Mayes of Hartford, three stepsons Albert Finehout Jr, Ray Finehout, and John Finehout, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, numerous step grand and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley died Sunday, February 11. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Albert Finehout, two grandsons Richard L. Finehout III and Christopher Finehout, two daughters Ellen Finehout and Dotty Pocevich, her parents Rudolph and Rose Schultz, and 10 siblings. A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, February 17, at 12:00 noon with visitation at 11:30 at Sister Lakes Community Church.
