Barbara’s life began May 12, 1938, in Clarksville, Tennessee. She spent most of her lifetime in Southwest Michigan. Barbara worked for many years tending bar, majority at M-140 Bar in Watervliet. Barbara enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens and drawing. She loved to go camping and fishing with her husband Eldon. Barbara was the life of the party and found great joy in gathering her friends and family together.

Barbara leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory including: three children Patricia Shimer, Dan (Janet) Shimer, and Laura (Joe) Bailey; two step-children Jan (Clint) King and Lynn (Ray) Griffin; a whole lot of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; two siblings Jim (Vergie) Bumpas and Sue (Jerry) Mertz; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara died Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at home surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her husband Eldon Kroening, three children Pam Shimer, Roger Shimer, and Ken Shimer, and three siblings Kathleen, Ethel and Charlene.
