Obituary

Chuck's life began December 9, 1930 in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  He was a lifetime area resident and graduated from Watervliet High School.  After high school Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Marines.  Upon returning home Chuck worked for Producers Creamery as a milk man for 20 years until he went to work at the Watervliet Paper Mill where he would work another 20 years until he retired.  After retirement Chuck went to work for Davidson Funeral Home for 12 years and more recently he worked at Hutchins Funeral Home.

Chuck's greatest joy came from his family whether he was taking them camping, supporting them in all their activities or just spending time with them.  He also enjoyed filling his time fishing, tinkering, doing yard work, and playing board games, cards, dice or dominoes.  Chuck was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed coaching his children's little league teams. Chuck also looked forward to spending his winters in Florida over the last 10 years.

Chuck leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory which includes: his significant other of 22 years Edith Marlin; four children Charles Scherer of Benton Harbor, Debra Scherer of Holiday, Florida, Richard (Marchelle) Scherer of Westminister, CO, and Nancy (Greg) Robinson of Coloma; three grandchildren Michelanne (Zak) Shane of Coloma, Cody Scherer of Coloma, and Nicholas Scherer of Berrien Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck died Thursday, May 25.  His wife of 40 years Jean Joyce (Silhanek) Scherer, his parents Charles and Lois (Warburton) Scherer, two sisters, and a brother precede Chuck in death.  A memorial service will be celebrated Saturday, June 10, at 11:00 AM at Plymouth Congregational Church in Watervliet.  Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Chuck's family with arrangements.  Memorials may be made in Chuck's name to Humane Society of SW Michigan, 641 South Crystal Avenue, Benton Harbor, MI 49022.  You are invited to leave a message for Chuck's family at hutchinsfuneral.com
