Charles's life began February 26, 1963, in Benton Harbor.  He was a lifetime area resident graduating from Benton Harbor High School.  Charles worked for Kraklau's Garage and when he wasn't working he enjoyed playing golf and following NASCAR.  His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and best friend Courtney who he married September 16, 2006.  Charles loving family includes: his wife Courtney (McNew) Smalley; four children Megan Smalley of Elkhart, Ryan Smalley (Danielle Desiletes) of Watervliet, Samantha Smalley of Baroda, and Ryan McNew of Watervliet; three grandchildren Brody and Aubrey Winnell and Ava Roberts; three sisters Lorri (Rick) Carpenter of Benton Harbor, Rita Quinn of St. Joseph, and Miki Gearhart of Watervliet; and many nieces and nephews.

Charles died Thursday, March 19.  His parents Alex and Laura (Williams) Smalley and two sisters Brenda Ingram and Nancy Cartter precede Charles in death.  Friends may visit with Charles family Sunday, March 22, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet.  Memorials may be made to Charles family.  You are invited to leave a memory for Charles at hutchinsfuneral.com
