Lull
January 1, 1922 – January 27, 2018
James "Jim" John Lull, age 96, died January 27, 2018, in the comfort of his home, only 100 yards from the house where he was born on January 1, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Louise (Muth) Lull, and his brother Charles Lull Jr. Jim attended Brick School, Watervliet High School, and Western Michigan College (University). He served in the US Navy during World War II as a radar man on the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga CV-3. Jim was interested in and played many sports, attending games for his daughters, grandsons, and great-grandchildren. He was well known for being a great historian and maintained his memory of incidents and people throughout his lifetime. Jim was very active in his community which included being the Bainbridge Township Treasurer for 37 years. He had served on the Cribbs School Board, was an officer of the SW Michigan Growers Association, Post Commander of the Watervliet American Legion Post, and board member of the local Economics and Development Organization. Until his death, Jim was the longest standing member (77 years) of the Legion Post. He was extremely proud of our country and his military service, attending numerous ship-mate reunions with his wife Betty throughout the States. Jim was a fruit and vegetable farmer with his brother and parents. He was a 4-H leader for 18 years, sat on the 4-H Council for 16 years, was the outstanding 4-H leader for Berrien County in 1968; he was also a founding member of the Berrien County 4-H Foundation. Jim is survived by his wife of 75 years Elizabeth (Peters) Lull, daughters Mary Cooper and Jamie Walter, grandchildren Jason (Jeanne) Conkin, Daniel (Angelene) Conkin, and David Walter, as well as great-grandchildren Elizabeth (Nick) Israel, Lucas Walter, Ben Conkin, Jay Conkin, and Clare Conkin. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3rd from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet where funeral services will be celebrated at 12:30 pm. Burial will take place privately at Crystal Springs Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Memorials may be made in Jim's memory to Coloma American Legion or Hospice at Home.
