John W. McCormack, 81, of Coloma, formerly of Alpena, Mich., was born in Detroit on Feb. 1, 1932, and passed away Jan. 23, 2014. John married Marian Hulet on April 11, 1958. She passed away Nov. 24, 2010. They were married 51 years. John graduated from St. Joseph Christian Brothers High School in Detroit. He served his country in the Army (1952-1954) in Japan and Korea. Using the G.I. Bill, he earned a BBA in Industrial Management from the Detroit Institute of Technology and a MA from Central Michigan University. John worked in the auto industry for 10 years, including the Ford Trim Plant. He finished his career working 20 years at Alpena Community College, retiring as dean of students. John was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 362. He is survived by his three children: Carol of Maui, Hawaii, and Michael and Gregory of Coloma; grandsons, Christopher of Maui and John Michael of Coloma; brothers: Fred of Berkley, Mich., and Tom of Rochester, Mich.; and sisters, Pat of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Margaret of St. Petersburg, Fla. A memorial Mass to celebrate John's life will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made in John's name to St. Joseph Catholic School in Watervliet.
