Jonas' life began June 18, 1945 in Watervliet, Michigan. He was a lifetime area resident, making his home in Watervliet and Hartford. He worked at Gast Manufacturing setting up machines until retirement. Jonas was an avid Harley rider and enjoyed following NASCAR. He made a couple of trips out to Sturgis, South Dakota for the bike rally and several trips up north for Blessing of the Bikes, with his best friend Claude.

Jonas leaves behind; two sons Brian McGowan and Richard McGowan, a stepdaughter Deena Gifford-Castillo, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a sister Carol, brother Tim, his best friend Claud (Marge) Hobson, and his dog Muffin.

Jonas died Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Corewell Health Lakeland in St. Joseph. He is preceded in death by his dad Millard "Cricket" McGowan, mom Twilla McCoy, and a brother Wayne.
