Dean’s life began on March 14, 1967, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He grew up in Coloma, where he graduated from high school before continuing his education at Lake Michigan College.

Dean dedicated more than 32 years of his career to Lane Automotive, where he worked as a project manager. He loved his time at Lane Automotive, especially representing the company at trade shows and building relationships throughout the automotive industry. His passion for racing and his commitment to his automotive family were evident in his role as the jackman for a two-time ASA championship team, where he and his teammates set record-setting pit stops for Lane Automotive.

It was through his love of racing that Dean met the love of his life, Jacqueline Parral. The two were married in 2019. Outside of work and the racing world, Dean was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Coloma Rod and Gun Club.

Above all, Dean cherished his family. When he married Jacqueline, he was excited to gain a daughter, Angele, and he embraced every opportunity to be a dad. Some of his favorite memories were the simple moments they shared, including entering a chili contest together when Angele was in high school. Dean also loved to travel, an interest that fit perfectly with his passion for racing and gave him many opportunities to see new places and make lasting memories.

Dean leaves behind his beloved wife, Jacqueline Parral-Akins; his daughter, Angele Parral; his sister, Ernestine Jenkins; his faithful dog, Clark; and his Lane Automotive family, all of whom will cherish his memory.

Dean passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long illness in his second home state of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruby (Williams) Akins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet, followed by burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Watervliet, Michigan. Friends may visit with Dean’s family Friday, September 25, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM.
