September 13, 1930 – July 24, 2015
Mary's life began September 13, 1930 in New York. Mary worked at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, then after moving to Michigan she was Postmaster in Covert, owned Marsala's Pizza Parlor in Covert, she was a cook at Holly's Suburban in South Haven, and she worked at Ma's Truck Stop in South Haven. Mary enjoyed being an active member of her community through the Covert Lion's Club, served on the Covert Library Board and Covert Historical Society, and she was a member of the Federal Postmaster Association of America. When Mary wasn't working or serving her community she enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Mary leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory which includes; five nieces and nephews Emy (Jack) Drummond, Maria (Gary) Alkice, Tony (Pam) Marsala, Gale (Tony) Peregrin, and Lyn Marsala, nine great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews. Mary died Friday, July 24, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Watervliet. Her husband Russell Gowens, parents Antonio and Filinoia (DeRosa) Marsala, and two brothers Robert Marsala and Thomas Marsala precede Mary in death.
A memorial mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 13, 2015, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet. You may leave a memory for Mary at hutchinsfuneral.com
