Mike was born July 8, 1964, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Theodore and Gwendolyn (Lepker) Elsner. He grew up in Coloma with his two siblings and graduated from Coloma High School in 1982.
After high school, Mike found his calling working with computers. He was self-employed for several years, his business was Allied Computer Experts where he had a client turned good friend, Chuck Murphy. Mike also worked in IT at Modern Plastics, served as a trade show manager at Heathkit, worked at Tri-County Computers, and most recently worked for Simple Computer Repair.
When Mike wasn’t working, he enjoyed collecting vintage things, especially boat motors. He loved spending time at his cabin up north, whether hanging out, boating, or hunting. In his quiet time, Mike enjoyed science fiction and reading. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh with his famously bad dad jokes.
Mike’s greatest joy was spending time with his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathy (Harte) Elsner; his two children, Walter (Kassie) Elsner and Caroline Elsner; his granddaughter, Luna Elsner; his sister, Beth (Jim) Eisbrenner; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike died Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Gwendolyn Elsner, and his brother, Brian Elsner.
Friends may visit with Mike’s family on Sunday, August 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, August 31, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Mike’s name to Corewell Health Hospice.
