Ron's life began December 10, 1938, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. He was a lifetime area resident. In 2004 after 32 years he retired from Bosch Braking Systems. On April 11, 1987, he married Janet Smith Harding and they enjoyed 35 years together. Outside of work Ron loved to bowl, he also enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a proud member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly #476 in Benton Harbor.

His greatest joy came spending time with his loving family which includes: his wife Janet Harding-McGath; five children Robin Dziegel, Laurie Roberts, Kelly (Jay) Barton, Sherry James, and Ronald McGath JR; many grandchildren; a brother LeRoy (Wanda) McGath; a sister Donna Rider; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron died Thursday, May 26, 2022, at home. His parents Goah and Clara (Estes) McGath and a brother Ross McGath precede Ron in death. Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Ron's family with cremation and a graveside service will be celebrated Friday, July 8, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
