IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosella Jean
(Smoot) (Stelter) Mcnair
February 23, 1930 – March 6, 2014
Rosella Jean (Stelter) McNair, 84, went to her Lord March 6, 2014 at Bayfront Health in Port Charlotte, FL. Rosella is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Thomas McNair; sons, Ralph (Barbara) Stelter of Bangor and LeeRoy (Ann) Stelter of Saint Joseph Township; daughters, Lorna (Richard) Bertog of Benton Township and Rita Stelter-Becht of Saint Joseph; stepson, Tom McNair of North Port, FL; a sister, Lucille Richter and life-long friend Joyce (Baker) Mensinger; Grandma had eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren with many nieces and nephews.
Rosella was born in Watervliet, Michigan to Fank Lloyd Smoot and Mary Catherine (Bellinger) Smoot on February 23, 1930. She attended Watervliet High School. She married Karl Albert Stelter in December 1945 upon his return from military duty during WWII. She worked for a host of employers Appliance Buyers Credit Corp., Martin Brothers Mill & Foundry, West Michigan Electric, Tala Realty, Totzke Realty, and owner/operator of Carr's Westwood Motel in South Bend.
Rosella loved her family and spent many hours researching the family's roots with excursions to libraries around the country looking for family information. Earlier in her life she was a dedicated mother who worked tirelessly on school functions and was president of the Washington School PTA. One hobby that consumed many hours of tedious needlework was quilting; she was also quite handy with her Singer sewing machine sewing costumes and cloths for her kids. She also enjoyed oil painting landscapes and still life. More recently in her retired life, living in Florida, she enjoyed the sunshine and warm weather.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross in Florida and for many years a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Coloma. Her dedication to her family was the cornerstone of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Rosella was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd and sister Mabel Kerr, three husbands Karl Stelter, Vernon Carr, and James Womac and a grandson Rory Becht.
A private Christian burial will be held at North Shore Memory Gardens in Hagar Shores. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Rosella's name to Salem Lutheran Church. Those wishing to send a condolence message online may do so in the guest book at hutchinsfuneral.com
