Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Lee Eyerly, 75, of Benton Harbor, passed away October 29,2026 surrounded by her family. She had a way of showing her love in a thousand little ways. She had a gift for making people feel cared for, whether it was through something she baked, something she made, a meal she prepared, or simply the time she spent with the people she loved.

Sandy was known for her homemade pies and sugar cookies, her beautiful flower gardens, and her ability to make ordinary moments special. She had a talent for sewing and creating things for the people she loved, and she spent years caring for countless children, leaving a little piece of her heart with every family.

She had a remarkable talent for taking hot dishes straight out of the oven without oven mitts, something that amazed everyone who witnessed it and became one of those unforgettable things that made her uniquely Sandy.

But of all the things Sandy was known for, nothing compared to the love she had for her grandchildren. Her face lit up every single time she saw them. They brought her a joy that was impossible to hide, and being their grandma was one of the greatest joys of her life. That love only grew as her family grew, welcoming six great-grandchildren who added even more happiness to her world.

Sandy was married to the love of her life, Warren “Bo” Eyerly, for 40 years before his passing in 2006. Their love was an important part of her story, and she carried that love with her throughout her life.

She leaves behind her three beloved daughters: Kimberly Elston (James “Bo”), Cherie Steinke, and Christy Boone (Troy), who will forever carry the memories, traditions, and love their mother gave them.

Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren: Lexi Schultz (Deven), Kelli Elston, Brad Steinke (Olivia), Courtney Steinke, Derek Boone (Rachel), and Trent Boone (Brooke McKenzie).

She was also a proud great-grandmother to Poppy Schultz, Murphy, Frankie, and Tommi Steinke, and Warren and Henry Boone.

Sandy is survived by her sisters, Mary Ann Alsup, Martha Bailey, and Brenda Crowder, as well as her special friend, Virgil Huber.

Sandy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren “Bo” Eyerly; her parents, John Rutherford and Beatrice Barnes; and her brothers, David and Jackie Rutherford.

Sandy’s love for Jesus was an important part of who she was. She had faith in Him and trusted that He would always take care of her. Her faith brought her comfort and gave her a special peace in knowing she was loved and never alone.

Though she will be deeply missed, the things Sandy taught and the love she gave will live on through her daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to have been part of her life.

Her hands made beautiful things, her kitchen brought people together, her garden brought beauty into the world, and her heart made her family feel loved.

Cremation arrangements are being handled by Hutchins Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Blue Roof Church in St. Joseph, Michigan, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service.
