Sandy McCarley Freeman was born on May 12, 1957, in Akron, Ohio. She spent most of her life in Southwest Michigan, where sheworked for Zenith Data Systems for many years and later worked at Plaza Citgo.
Sandy loved running her command center, following NASCAR, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, especially rooting for Mahomes.She also enjoyed occasionally putting in a parlay, betting on her favorite teams and players. Her greatest joy was being a devoted mom and granny, and she was affectionately known as “Aunt Sandy” to many. She was also known for her signature saying, “UTT!”
Sandy passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Corewell Health Lakeland in St. Joseph, Michigan, surrounded by family.
She leaves behind a family who will cherish her memory, including her four children: Rick (Holly) Freeman, Mandy Freeman, Nina Oliver,and Jewelz McCarley; seven grandchildren: Tyler, Tony, Richard, Anthony, Makayla, Emmalyn, and Chris; a special niece, Cindy (Kelly)Mills; her beloved fur babies, Paco and Chloe; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Freeman; her parents, Hoyt and Clara Maxine (Jackson) McCarley; and her sisters,Brenda, Linda, and Tina.A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet, Michigan. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sodus, Michigan.
