Sonya's life began January 20, 1963 in Pulaski, Tennessee.  As a young child her family moved to Michigan and she grew up in Coloma, graduating from Coloma High School in 1981.  Sonya ran a day care and worked for many years for Coloma Public Schools. She was very passionate about helping kids and caring for their needs. In her free time Sonya enjoyed painting, fishing, and especially spending time with her family.  She grew to love the outdoors, and especially treasured time spent up north on the river and around the campfire with her loved ones. Sonya was also a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.

She was preceded in death by her father, James "Booker" Townsend.

Sonya loved her family deeply, which includes: her two children Dirk Bromberek and Nicole (Charlie) Reice; her mom Janice (Ron) Wood; four siblings Sharon Townsend (Brant Berg), Steve (Kim) Townsend, her twin Tonya (Mike) Thumm, and Neal (Kelly) Townsend; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with Sonya's family Friday, November 7, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by her funeral service at 1:00 pm at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Please join the family in celebrating Sonya's life and the love she shared with everyone around her.
