Steven was born September 16, 1959, in Benton Harbor, where he was raised and attended Michigan Lutheran High School. He owned and operated his own construction business for many years and most recently worked for Future Construction.

When he wasn’t working, Steven enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with his family and the memories they made together.

Steven leaves behind his sister, Kathy Graham; nephew Anthony Ott; nieces Sherry Ott and Paige Ott; great-nieces Isabelle Klifman and Emma Ott; great-nephews Logan, Mason Boerman, and Xavier Ott; his stepchildren, Mary, Jody, and Mike Champion; and grandchildren Shawn (Erica) Pearce, Sierra (Brice) Pearce, Jillian Burleson, Shane, Joleigh, Jazalyn, and Jersey Champion, who will cherish his memory.

Steven died Monday, August 24, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bonnie (Sampson) Jones; his brother, Lewis Jones; and his niece, Jackie Perkins.

Hutchins Funeral Home is assisting Steven’s family with cremation. In keeping with the family’s wishes, a private celebration of Steven’s life will be held.
