Thelma's life began March 28, 1927, in Benton Harbor. She grew up in Benton Harbor attending Lafayette Elementary and graduating from Benton Harbor High School. After high school Thelma went to work in the accounting department of Ross Carrier and later she retired from Mercy-Memorial Hospital (Lakeland Hospital). Outside of work Thelma enjoyed Rv-ing, working in her flower gardens, and she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for 71 years. Her greatest joy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Thelma leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory which includes: her husband Albert "Bud" Randal whom she married September 17, 1949; two children Ruth (Ken) Thornton and Allen (Linda) Randall; five grandchildren Donald Ray (Holly) Thornton, Robert Allen (Deah) Thornton, Aaron Murdoch (Jeri) Randall, Alanna Randall (Tad) Beckwith, and Shawn Keith (Alice) Wideman; seven great grandchildren Samantha Elizabeth Randall, Harlee Anne Thornton, Logan Allen Thornton, Jake Kroepel, Addison Nicole Thornton, Lily Hails Wideman, and Sky Aaron Beckwith; a brother Chester (Pauline) Strunk; many nieces and nephews; and her good friend Maureen Bishop.
Thelma died Tuesday, September 16, at Lakeland Hospital St. Joseph. She is preceded in death by a granddaughter Amy Marie Thornton, her parents Virgil and Mary (Marler) Strunk, three brothers Glenn, Mel, and Warner Strunk, and a sister Nurma Strunk. Friends may visit with Thelma's family Friday, September 19, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Thelma's cremains will be buried during a private family service at Penn Yan Cemetery.
