Walt's life began May 28, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. He spent his childhood growing up in Chicago and summering with his parents on Saddle Lake near Grand Junction MI. Walt's parents enjoyed Southwest Michigan so they purchased property, making Hartford their home. After high school, Walt proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper. Upon returning to Hartford he went to work for the City of Watervliet as a police officer and then later in the public works department. Walt also worked maintenance for many years at St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Watervliet. Walt will be remembered for always being active, he loved the outdoors whether doing yard work, hunting, or fishing. He was great with his hands and showed his skill through woodworking; he built cradles when his grandchildren were born, as well as other furniture for his children and their families to enjoy. Outside of his hobbies and work, Walt still found time to be active in Watervliet VFW Post. He was a 4 th Degree Knight and last charter member of Knights of Columbus Council 4055 in Watervliet.
Walt's greatest joy was spending time with his loving family which includes: his wife Joan (Lando) who he enjoyed 60 years of marriage with; five children Sandra (Steve) Trombello of Lemont, IL, Steven Duday of Long Beach, CA, Anna Duday Kellogg of Hartford, Mary Duday Buck of Watervliet, and Edmond Duday of Paw Paw; six grandchildren; Janine Westlund, Carla Westlund, Norman Kellogg, Gina Kellogg, Devon Buck, and Collin Buck; a brother Richard (Mary) Duday of Prescott, AZ; two nephews Christopher Duday and Michael Duday; and a great niece Alexis Duday. Walt died Monday, June 23 at his home, with his family by his side. Walt is preceded in death by: his parents Walter and Angeline (Nowakowski) Duday, a niece Melanie Duday, and a nephew Gregory Duday.
