William's life began June 24, 1946, in New Buffalo, Michigan. He spent his childhood growing up in the New Buffalo area until he was adopted by Glen and Elsa Helm bringing him to Berrien Springs. He helped his parents working at Bar H in Berrien Springs. William enjoyed fishing, photography, and he participated in the Special Olympics four times. He was an active member of Midway Baptist Church and looked forward to helping with their soccer camp every summer. After his parents died William was taken in by his nephew William Metzger who he leaves behind to cherish his memory.

William died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Corewell Health St. Joseph. He leaves behind his nephew William Metzger to cherish his memory. William is preceded in death by his parents Glen and Elsa Helm and two brothers John Hubert and Peter Rhodes. William's life will be celebrated Monday, May 20, 2024 at 6:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church in Watervliet. Memorials may be made to PACE of Southwest Michigan, Disabilities Network of Southwest Michigan, Riverwood, and Center for Growth and Independence (formerly Gateway)
