IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
Saurbier
June 13, 1942 – May 31, 2015
William, affectionately known as "Wild Bill", was born June 13, 1942, in Benton Harbor, MI. He grew up in Benton Harbor, graduating from Benton Harbor High School. After high school Bill served his country in the United States Navy. Upon returning home from the service Bill went to work and Voice of Music and then K.O. Wood Products. While at K.O. Wood Products Bill started working as a reserve police officer for the City of Watervliet. That reserve job led to part-time, and eventually full-time active service as a police officer. Bill proudly served the Watervliet community as a police officer for more than 50 years. When Bill wasn't protecting and serving you could find him lifting weights, playing softball at Fish Corners, playing guitar, following Fox News, or watching his beloved White Sox, U of M, and the Chicago Bears. Bill was a caring man with a great sense of humor and a love for animals, especially cats.
Bill died May 31, at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph. He is survived by his wife Connie Saurbier, a daughter, Teresa Louise Tally of Surprise, AZ (near Phoenix), a son-in-law, Jeff Tally, two granddaughters- Heather, (age 14) and Claire Elise Tally, ( age 6 1/2), a stepson Christopher Brown, many cousins, aunts, and uncles, as well as numerous brothers in law enforcement. He is preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Lynn Saurbier (age 13), and his parents, William O. and Isadora (Arent) Saurbier.
A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held Sunday, June 28, at 4:00 PM at Central Assembly of God on Rhino Road in Coloma, MI, with a fellowship gathering at Coloma FOP Lodge 147 on Angling Road following the service. Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Bill's family with arrangements. You may leave a memory of Bill at hutchinsfuneral.com .
