Donald Ray Krause

Donald Krause, Sr, 84, of Coloma, MI passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Lakeland Hospital in Saint Joseph at 2:09 am.

Donald Krause was born in Benton Harbor, MI to the late Carl Louis and Olive Lucille (Shinn) Krause. He had eight siblings, seven have passed. Bill (Lavon) Krause of Saint Joseph, MI is his only surviving brother.

In 1961, he married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Totzke in Benton Harbor, MI.

He left middle school to help his parents with living expenses. He worked at Whirlpool for over 15 years until they closed. In 1984, he and Beverly purchased Land of Lakes Campground in Sister Lakes, MI and managed it until 2014 when his wife passed. Afterwards, he sold it and purchased a home in Coloma, MI.

He is survived by his four children: Debbie Lefor of Dowagiac, Cheryl Krause of Dowagiac, Sandra Burgess of Coloma, and Donald Krause Jr. of Berrien Springs. He is survived also by four grandchildren: Michael Gettig Jr. of Berrien Springs, Robert Gettig of Dowagiac, Aaron (wife Teresa) Krause of Keeler, Austin (fiancée Katie) Burgess of Watervliet and eleven great-grandchildren, plus one due in September.

Donald enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and most of all, spending precious time with his four chihuahuas; whom he called his babies.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2023, 11:00 AM at Midway Baptist Church, 7517 Red Arrow Highway, Watervliet, MI 49098.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hutchins Funeral Home for cremation services.
