Dorothy Marie (Roberts) West

Dorothy Marie West, 91, of Lawrence passed away April 1, 2021, at Hanson Hospice Center, Stevensville.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 20, 1930, in Lexington, Tenn., to Jim and Eva (Goff) Roberts. The family moved to Coloma during her childhood. This is where Dorothy met and later married the love of her life, Kenneth Ray West, in 1946. They settled in Hartford, where they raised two children: Larry and Regina, and celebrated nearly forty-five years of marriage before Kenneth’s passing in 1991.

She was employed with the Watervliet Paper Company for almost forty years and built many lifelong friendships during her time in the cutting room and as a paper sorter.

Dorothy long ago professed her life to Christ and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Coloma. She cherished praising the Lord, attending church whenever she could and reading her Bible. Dr. Roger Stewart, Pastor Mark Manning, and her church family were very dear to her heart.

Dorothy loved to laugh and enjoyed making others laugh as well. She had many talents including being an accomplished seamstress. She had a wonderful sense of adventure, loved to travel and enjoyed drives in the country with family. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning her cosmetology license. However, her greatest love was her relationship with her Lord and Savior, her husband, and her family.

She leaves behind son, Larry West of Hartford; daughter, Regina West of Lawrence; six grandchildren: Ken West, and Dawn Buckley of Arkansas, Jennifer West of Lansing, Pamela (Nick) Borkowski of South Haven, Trina Attalson of Florida and David Skinner of Georgia; and several great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; two brothers: Ervin and John Roberts; two sisters: Mary Katherine Roberts, and Mary Niblett; along with several lifelong friends.

Services will be at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet on Tuesday, April 6, where the family will receive visitors one hour before the 1 p.m. service. Burial will follow in Coloma Cemetery. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Dorothy's family
