Helen’s life began February 5, 1924, in Benton Harbor. She was a lifetime area resident and spent most of her adult life in Sodus with the love of her life, Graham Handy. Helen loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family knew her as the Baby Whisperer. She was always soaking up all the hugs she could when visiting. Helen always looked forward to attending any type of performance or sporting event for her children and grandchildren. She spent countless hours making costumes for plays and dance recitals. She leaves behind a daughter Laurie Rampling, son-in-law, Duane Holt, six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
Helen died Sunday, June 7, at Pine Ridge Nursing Home. Her husband Graham Handy, her parents Fredinand and Caroline Byers, her sisters Elsie Stowers, Adeline Hardke, and Eleanor Caprez, a daughter Linda Holt, a son Gary Handy, and a grandson Brian Holt precede Helen in death. Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet is assisting Helen’s family with cremation arrangements. Her family will celebrate her life at a later date. Memorials may be made in Helen’s memory to Children’s Music Workshop. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Helen’s family.
