Hershell was born March 10, 1929, in Trumann, Arkansas. He spent his early years in Arkansas and then his family moved to Michigan where Hershell would graduate from Benton Harbor High School. After high school Hershell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, two of his four years in Alaska during the Korean Conflict. At Steve’s Roller Rink in 1947 he met Norma Arnold and they married in 1951. Hershell and Norma enjoyed 68 loving years together. Hershell drove truck for 22 years, they enjoyed living in Michigan but in 1986 they moved to Florida where Hershell worked for Lykes Brothers and then enjoyed their retirement years.
Hershell leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory including: three children Randy Harris of Lake Placid, Carol (Michael) Fulton of Watervliet, and Larry (Gail) Harris of Sebring, FL; four grandchildren Brande VanNiel, Eric Fulton, Adam Harris, and Heath Harris; and two great grandchildren Kade VanNiel and Tanner VanNiel.
Hershell died Thursday, April 8, at home in Florida. The love of his life Norma, three brothers Dallis Harris, Ray Harris, and Calvin Harris, and his parents Osbon and Marget (Elsworth) Harris precede Hershell in death. A graveside service will be celebrated Saturday, April 17, at 10:00 AM in Watervliet Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet.
