Leona’s life began January 2, 1937 in Hartford, Michigan. She grew up in Hartford, graduating from Hartford High School. She worked for a time as a bookkeeper and at Merchant Bank, then started driving school bus. Leona drove bus for Watervliet Public Schools, then Eau Claire Public Schools and finished her career at Lake Michigan Catholic Schools. She loved driving bus and getting to know the children. When she wasn’t working you could find Leona enjoying friends and family.
Leona leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory including: two daughters Stacie (Bryan) Dohm and Tonda DeVries; two grandchildren Lindsay McKinney and Chelsea Broderick; a great granddaughter Ella Wilson; five siblings Leola (Ken) Wendzel, Lucy Nugent, Hazel Vasser, Dick (Debbie) Weston, and Dan (Toni) Weston; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona died Friday, August 6, at West Woods of Bridgman. Her parents Lawrence and Beatrice (Smith) Weston precede Leona in death. Friends may visit with Leona’s family Thursday, August 19, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Funeral services will be celebrated Friday, August 20, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church in Sodus. You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Leona’s family.
