Mary's life began in Anniston, Alabama on October 14, 1940. As a young girl Mary's family moved to Florida where she lived for several years until she and her husband moved their family to Michigan. Mary worked for Avion Coach Corporation in Benton Harbor. After raising her family Mary returned to Florida and took a culinary position in Cinderella's Castle at Disney World. After retirement from Disney she returned to Michigan to be closer to family. Mary was a hard worker and enjoyed tackling her own home projects. Mary had a big heart for animals and would feed stray cats and would give them a loving home.
Mary's surviving family includes: four children, Angela Flowers, Pamela (Jeff) Jurczak, John (Lanie) Stratford, and Jeffrey (April) Stratford; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother Walter Gilliam; Son In Law, Bob Flowers; and dear friend Max Taylor.
Mary died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at home surrounded by family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Leva (King) Gilliam, and three brothers Bill, Robert and Paul. Mary will be laid to rest with a private family graveside service in Shanghai Memorial Cemetery.
