Nancy passed away while surrounded by family on October 25, 2020 at the age of 78. She was born July 11, 1942 in South Haven, MI and graduated in 1960 from Watervliet High School. In 1961 she married and spent her time for many years raising and providing for her two boys, Jim and Jon. In the early years she worked as the Coloma Township Police dispatcher and as a hairdresser. In the late 70’s Nancy graduated from nursing school and went on to work for many years at Watervliet Hospital as an ER nurse and supervisor. She retired from there in 2007 and became a full time grandma. “Grandma Nancy” was a fun and loving grandmother who fully enjoyed time spent with family; always cooking and planning for family gatherings and holidays. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching baseball at every opportunity. Nancy is survived by two sons; Jim Jr (Mikki) Swisher of Coloma and their children, Zack of Taylor, MI and Katie & Nicole of Coloma and Jon (Kim) Swisher and their children Samantha & Steven of Byron Center, MI. She is also survived by her sister Julie (Clare) Lodenstein of Wayland, MI, sister in-law Valerie (Art) Chartrand of Sebring, FL as well as so many lifelong friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Jane Bates and in-laws Al & Nellie Swisher. Per Nancy’s wishes she has been cremated and there will be no service. Memorials may be made to Coloma Township (4919 Paw Paw Lake Rd, Coloma, MI 49038) to a fund set up for the Washington School Park and Ballfields, a place where Nancy enjoyed spending so much time with her sons in youth baseball and later her granddaughters in youth softball.
